I have only one grown daughter, one grandson, but I have 3 great grandchildren. Small family, but very close knit. I lost my husband of 43 years almost 20 years ago and I still miss him.
I enjoy my great grandaughters especially since the oldest is into crafts and it's something we can do together.
I've been quilting and sewing since I was a child, many, many years ago. I started sewing on a treadle sewing machine.
I've traveled by horse, train, car and plane in my years on this earth, but I did not get to travel on a stage coach. As you might guess, I am probably one of the oldest swap-bot members at 95.
Being old doesn't mean I have to lie down just yet. I like to keep busy and I am lucky enough to enjoy fairly good health and most of my mind. I am currently spending some time with my daughter, but I do keep my own home. I still cook, although the new healthly food doesn't appeal to me as much as a good pot roast, bacon and I still use lard in my pie crust! When people ask me the secret to my years I usually tell them, "hard work, fried food, red meat, and lots of sugar." But, maybe that only works for me.
I've been quilting since I was 11 years old but I learn something new with every quilt. I love to sew, mostly by hand since that's how I learned. But, I do use my machine too. I don't knit or crochet, but I do some other crafts such as card making, scrapbooking, and I enjoy making things with natural materials.
Movies don't appeal to me much anymore. I suspect that's because things have changed so much and I'm a little old fashior. Although I do like the TV show Two and a half Men. It's a little bold, but I think it's funny anyway.
I love antiques, probably because I am one. But I collect old costume jewelry especially for the 1920s - 1940s. Old post cards, greeting cards (especially valentines), I love vintage lace and fabrics.
I also collect pretty glass ware...nothing in particular, just whatever strikes my fancy.
I love nature and everything about it. I feed the birds and wildlife in my yard, just so I can watch them. I love to go out into the woods and pick wildflowers.
I garden a little, not like I used to, but I keep some containers and have a small flower garden in the front of my house. And, I seem to have a knack for growing oregano. I have a "field" of it in my side yard. I don't know why, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. If anyone need oregano, just let me know, I believe I could supply Italy.
I still travel and love it. My daughter and I go whenever we can. Hopefully we can make it to Ireland before the end of this year. I've already seen all 48 state, only have Alaska and Hawaii to go.
I love pen pals and have had pen friends for over 50 years. Although I'm not too good at email. My daughter helps me out there. But, I love to write and receive letters and trade little things so this is the first technology that I've been really excited about, other than shopping.
