My name is Barbara

Italian by birth, UK‑based by questionable life choices, and I have spent the last 25 years pretending adulthood is something I’ve mastered. I live out in the sticks just outside London with my husband, a teenage daughter who has turned sulking into an Olympic‑level sport, and two cats, Thor and Freya, who behave like they’re Norse gods slumming it in a mortal household.

I’m a former radio DJ, which means I still talk too much, have strong opinions about playlists, and occasionally narrate my own life like it’s a late‑night show. I’ve travelled extensively, and I’m forever dreaming of Japan, Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong, basically anywhere with good food, neon lights, and the possibility of getting lost in a market.

I love to cook (my kitchen is my kingdom), but I hate vacuuming with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. I’m an avid letter writer, the long, rambling, “this could have been a novel” kind; and I’ll try my hand at any craft, from the beautifully handmade to the “well… it has character” variety. I’m also a proud nerd: LOTR, Firefly, Community, and anything with world‑building, wit, or a bit of delightful nonsense.

I believe there is no such thing as a “just war” - unless we’re talking about the war I wage daily against my vacuum cleaner.

I believe a woman’s place is wherever she chooses to be - full stop, no footnotes, no permission slips required. I have a deep love for people who want the world to move forward, not backwards, and who understand that equality isn’t a “nice idea” but the bare minimum for a functioning society. I get on best with humans who think everyone deserves the same rights, the same safety, and the same chance to live freely, and who don’t pine for the kind of “good old days” that were only good if you happened to be at the top of the ladder.

I’m happiest around people who value kindness over control, progress over nostalgia, and who believe that empowering others doesn’t diminish anyone, it just makes the world a fairer, brighter place.
