WIYM: Sparks of Mail Art-spiration

Inspired by artist Carolyn Dube and her weekly “sparks” of inspiration.

We will mail one (1) partner a minimum of:

• Two (2) ATC sized “Art-spiration” backgrounds that have been made using a colorful art medium such as paint, pastel, gesso, pigment, ink, sprays, or dyes.

These backgrounds must be made using more than simply paper and adhesive.

The backgrounds do not have to be identical.

Both backgrounds may be larger in size but cannot be any smaller than a standard ATC.

Backgrounds made using cardboard, fabric, clay, wood, metal, and polymers are all welcome too. Just remember that additional postage may be required if you choose bulky or stiff materials.

• A self-addressed envelope or return-address label (so your partner can send your mail art back to you more easily)

The emphasis here is on the colorful, mixed media ART- aspect of the mail art.

This is MORE than just adhering paper to paper like a decoupaged napkin on some card stock.

Let's get in touch with our inner artist and use color mediums to fashion these “sparks” with some interesting textures and/or layers.

Upon receiving your "sparks", you will then have the freedom to create any mail art that you're inspired to make.

Paint, die cut, rip, doodle on, stamp, emboss, etc.

Please use your imagination and a portion of the "sparks" to fashion a unique mini masterpiece to send your partner.

Sender’s choice of mail art to send back to their partner. In other words, you decide to make an ATC, tag, index card, postcard, etc.

Participating artists are agreeing to send one completely finished piece of mail art, using the spark, back to their assigned partner within 60 calendar days from the time the “sparks” were received.

Participants are also agreeing to rate promptly upon receipt of their sparks.

This swap has a longer turnaround time to accommodate our inner artist because I genuinely hope that we'll be inspired before creating. Thus, the idea behind the swap name “art-spiration”(inspiration).
